The Department of Communications and the Arts (DOCA) works to foster an environment in which all Australians benefit from access to diverse communications services and artistic and cultural experiences.
One of their key areas of responsibility is Australian Classifications – the department which ensures all Australian media is appropriately classified and rated, providing advice to the Australian public on appropriate media consumption, and helping industry to ensure that their products are rated appropriately.
To aid them in replatforming their aging site, I collaborated with Salsa Digital in the role of UX Lead, drawing on existing user research, taking the department and diverse stakeholders through a creative co-design process, and creating a rapid prototype for user testing with their two key audiences.
I’ve also overseen the development of the UI and site design, resulting in a style based on the existing DTA design system, but with unique variations which set DOCA apart – creating a look and feel more appropriate to their audience of creative media professionals and the general public.
The project will proceed into development soon, taking the user-tested prototype and design system to get up and running quickly and easily.
